In what could be the strongest statement yet, Johnson Sakaja has voiced his concerns against imposed candidates vying in Nairobi.
Speaking at a rally in Gatundu on Wednesday, Sakaja said that double standards being employed against those who have been in Jubilee since its formation is a disappointment.
Singling out Margaret Wanjiru, Mike Sonko and Dennis Waweru, Sakaja says that those using the tribal card will not shake them.
The nominated MP who is interested in becoming Nairobi governor says that they will support anyone one among them who gets the ticket.
“We’ve worked together for 11 years. But now that I want to be Nairobi governor, they say I am young and I can, you’re loved by citizens and you can but your tribe is bad. They tell Sonko the same. Is this the Jubilee we have built all these years?”
In a video shared online, a bitter Sakaja who deplored the action by a section of Jubilee leaders said that it is not right for one person to be imposed while they were not supportive of the government from its election.
He said, “Are you the ones who have sent people to come tell us that are the wrong tribe? It is painful… That we go around Kenya saying we’re together but you two are the wrong tribe…”
In a direct statement against Peter Kenneth’s candidacy which is seen to have been orchestrated by senior members in Jubilee, Sakaja disparaged Kenneth saying that he was against Uhuru’s presidency since day one.
“There’s one who is special who even during the ICC cases he wanted Uhuru jailed. He stood and said that Uhuru can’t be president but he now wants to be Nairobi governor… He has now seen an opportunity and has come to vie. Were we doing a stupid job?”
The nominated MP, however, swore to stick by Uhuru regardless of what happens. In a video published online, he said, “I Sakaja Arthur Johnson, it is Uhuru Kenyatta who has brought me this far and I will never leave him. Even if Raila and the opposition gave me a certificate for Nairobi, I don’t want it! But let it not be that because of my tribe I cannot vie. Let nobody look down on us…” he said.
Sakaja and former TNA secretary general Onyango Oloo have allegedly been frustrated by some senior Jubilee party members with Oloo throwing in the towel on Tuesday.
Oloo joined Raila Odinga’s ODM on Wednesday morning where he said that many more people would leave Jubilee which he said has no national face.
Among those suspected to be courting the opposition include Sakaja, Sonko and several other politicians allied to Jubilee in Nairobi have expressed disappointment in how Nairobi politics is being run.
