Sakaja believes that among the contenders in the forthcoming 2017 elections, he is the best suited to lead Nairobians in changing and improving their lives without riding on tribalism and corruption vehicle, regardless of his political experience.

“Politics is the art of the able not a battleground for the absolute,” said Mr Sakaja, who has been on the political scene for over a decade since venturing into politics as a 21-year-old campus student.

He spoke to Radio Jambo on Tuesday morning where he highlighted many issues including his political journey as well as his political ambitions.

When quizzed about his Nairobi gubernatorial ambitions, the TNA chairman, insisted that despite being on the political scene for a shorter period of time compared to his main challengers, his performance and ambitions for the people of Nairobi is the key factor.

“The matter of experience is a non- issue," he said.

“The kind of experience needed for Nairobians is one that upholds integrity, leadership and visionary experience. Politics is not supposed to be a retirement career, one is supposed to give politics his or her best years,” he added.

He has been involved in national politics since the 2005 referendum and played a key role in the 2007 re-election of former president Mwai Kibaki.

He will be seeking to beat the incumbent, Cord's Evans Kidero and several others such as Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko who has shown interest in the county's top seat.
