The Joint Committee on National Cohesion has set out to strengthen the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) towards the 2017 elections.
The parliamentary committee chaired by Johnson Sakaja is undertaking discussions with an aim of coming up with ideas that would ensure the country is not plunged into chaos after the elections.
Addressing government agencies in Mombasa on Saturday October 29, Sakaja said it was necessary to guard against incitement messages that would spur chaos after the 2017 elections.
"We have held discussions centred on strengthening NCIC. As 2017 approaches, we want smooth, free and peaceful elections. Utterances made during political campaigns, funerals, harambees and other meetings should not incite Kenyans in any given way as this may cause problems in the 2017 election," said Sakaja.
Also in attendance was NCIC chair Francis Ole Kaparo who drummed up Sakaja's sentiments.
He called on politicians to avoid making inciteful messages that would only cause chaos.
"The Constitution does not allow for hateful messages in the country. We therefore call on politicians to uphold peace that would ensure a smooth operation in 2017," said Kaparo.
