Nairobi Senator Sakaja has called for the collaboration of Nairobi shop owners and the police in a bid to stop the rising cases of robbery in the city's Central Business District.
Addressing the press in his office Tuesday, the Senator urged the shop owners to install surveillance cameras in their shops, saying that if positioned, in collaboration with the existing ones, the equipment will help identify lawbreakers in the streets, making it easier for law enforcers to nab them.
''At this moment there is need for shop owners to come in to aid the police in taming the situation. I would propose that all shops have surveillance cameras to supplement the ones already installed by the government to help secure the streets,'' he said.
He also called upon them to embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative, stressing on the need for the business owners to secure themselves and their property as well.
''They should also embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative as business owners. This will boost their security and that of their products and property,'' added the lawmaker.
The Nairobi county government has also expressed its concerns over the rising cases of mugging in the CBD and has since formed a special unit to deal with the gangs associated with the activities.
