Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja has responded following the closure of Moi Girls High school.
According to Sakaja, closing the school for one week will not help in identifying and arresting the suspect who raped one of the girls at the institution.
“I am condemning the rape incident at Moi Girls High school but I am not happy with the closure of the school for one week because learning will be interrupted. Police could have been allowed to probe the rape incident while students are in school learning,” he said.
He faulted Education CS Amina Mohamed for rushing to announce the closure of the school.
"Security assessment in the school could have been done in the presence of the students who should be given a chance to give comments on the school’s security. Closing of the school for one week is likely to jeopardize investigations and the suspects may not be arrested at the end,” he noted.
Sakaja was speaking at Bomas of Kenya on Sunday where he attended a fundraiser.
