Nasa flag bearer Raila Odinga has been asked to desist from making careless, populist statements to avoid eliciting emotions that may undermine the country's stability ahead of August 8 General Election.

Nominated MP and Jubilee senatorial candidate for Nairobi Johnson Sakaja has said that Raila and his Nasa coalition must shun from reckless utterances meant to excite their supporters at the cost of country's peace.

Sakaja cited Raila's recent 'divisive statements' made at Kajiado about land and the allegations that Jubilee government is plotting to use the military to rig August 8 elections.

"Issues of land in Kenya must be treated with utmost caution. Also, our military is professional and tribeless. If there’s any truth to the allegations, it should be supported by evidence.

"Otherwise, why raise issues just to evoke people's emotions during an electioneering period yet some of these things have been with us since time immemorial?" said Sakaja on Wednesday during Citizen TV JKL show.

On the electoral process, Sakaja said that IEBC must be given some breathing space saying so much time was being spent casting doubt on the commission's preparedness and the electoral process.

"We need to support IEBC as leaders by watching what we say not to discredit the same commission we entrust to deliver us free, fair, credible elections. The results of the elections will depend on how we treat the process," he said.

On the other hand, Sakaja stated that the IEBC must inspire confidence in the voters by being 'above reproach.'
