Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has changed its Nairobi senatorial candidate.
The party has now picked lawyer Edwin Sifuna, to battle it out with Jubilee Party's Johnson Sakaja, in quest to succeed Mike Sonko, who wants to oust governor Dr Evans Kidero.
Sifuna unsuccessfully contested for the ODM ticket, to vie for the Kanduyi Constituency parliamentary seat in Bungoma county, but lost out to Bungoma County Assembly Speaker John Makali who garnered 6,473 votes against his', 3,111 votes. ODM had picked Gabriel Bukachi for Nairobi senator.
Reports indicate the decision to settle on Sifuna came after a high level meeting at Raila's Capitol Hill offices, Thursday.
''Friends, following the setback in the Kanduyi ODM Primaries, i have received overwhelming support from all of you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
As they say one door closes so that another can open. I have subsequently been petitioned by residents, party supporters and the party leadership to consider playing in a different position for the team, which is why this morning i have accepted the Party's nomination as its candidate for Senate in the great County of Nairobi.
Its an immense challenge, but a great honor as well. I immediately embark on a serious grassroots campaign in Nairobi and will be looking forward to your support.#MbelePamoja,'' Sifuna said through his Facebook page, Friday.
