Dr. Roselyn Akombe Kwamboka was born in 1976 in Nyamira County. She joined the University of Nairobi, where she studied Education, before going to the USA for further studies.

She joined the Rutgers University, where she graduated with a Master of Science in Global Affairs and a PhD in the same field.

Before joining the IEBC as a commissioner, Akombe worked as an undersecretary at the United Nations headquarters in New York, where she says she gained experience in electoral matters around the world.

This, she argued when interviewed by the parliamentary committee, adding that her strongest skill was in resolving diplomatic conflicts.

Having stayed abroad for over 15 years, she said she had gained considerable experience to understand the diaspora needs in terms of voting.

Her appointment by the IEBC meant she took a pay cut from her job at the UN, where she took a sabbatical, noting that she was taking a sacrifice and willing to be a patriot for her country.

The commissioner's life is a private one and very little details have emerged about her family private life.

She earns around ksh 800,000 basic salary.

She is 41 years old.
