At least 400 residents from Salgaa Trading Centre on Tuesday took to the streets over the poor state of the Nakuru -Salgaa Road.
“We have been incurring heavy losses due to the poor state of this road. Our cars have been breaking down severally," said Joe Mwangi, a driver.
Sam Kitur, a Salgaa farmer said that the road has been a nuisance as it has made it impossible to transport farm produce to market.
The angry residents engaged police officers demanding an urgent meeting with Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua over the deplorable state of the road.
The incident brought businesses activities at Salgaa Trading Centre to a standstill while traffic on the busy Nakuru-Eldoret Highway ran for miles due to the melee.
The residents had lit bonfires, barricading the highway.
Confirming the incident, Rongai OCPD Joseph Mwamburi urged residents to channel their grievances in the right manner.
“Going to streets will not solve the Salgaa problem. Residents should use mature ways to present their grievances," he said” ”.
Mwamburi said that it is wrong for residents to create disturbances and the act may land them in court.
Soin Ward MCA Simon Kiprop urged the residents to be patient with the county government and give it time to repair the road.
“Money has been set for the road and residents should give the county government time to finalise its tendering process,” said Kiprop.
