Taita Taveta county will get a nephrologist and a family physician who will be stationed at Moi County Referral Hospital and Taveta Sub County Hospital respectively.
The two are among the 100 specialised medical practitioners hired to supplement the available personnel in public health facilities.
Governor Granton Samboja revealed that one health professional from the County is among 50 Kenyan medical doctors who will travel to Cuba to be trained as a Family Physician.
This is after the Council of Governors on Monday signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Health that outlines the terms of engagement and distribution of the 100 Cuban medical specialists who are set to arrive in the country next month (June).
"The aim of devolution is to bring medical services closer to the public, this also includes specialized care/services which Kenyans used to travel long distances to get," he said.
Samboja indicated that hiring of Cuban medical specialists is a major stride aimed at solving the shortage of doctors currently being experienced in Kenya as the nation lays sustainable measures to eliminate the vice in the near future.
"The process of sharing the medical specialists from Cuba was a very consultative and inclusive one with every County receiving the expert they needed most," said Council of Governors vice chair, Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru.
Taita Taveta Health CeC Dr. Frank Mwangemi lauded the government's move towards the actualization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in line with Sustainable Development Goals and President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big Four Agenda.
In attendance was the county's Devolution and Administration CeC Janet Mwawasi.
