Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal has warned the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) over the recent pay review saying it is aimed at intimidating politicians and aspirants.
The Sarah Serem led commission slashed pay packages for all state officers in a move to tame the country's balooning wage bill.
In Kenya, nearly 70 per cent of funds are burned in recurrent expenditure with only a small percentage reserved for development.
But Lenolkulal said the Sarah Serem team ought to have harmonised salaries for all civil servants as per their responsibilities and performance.
He said the commission ought to have considered superiority and responsibilities of leaders such as governors before reviewing their salaries.
The governor also said plans by council of governors to moderate county bosses' salaries were underway and have been overtaken by political events.
"SRC should have prioritised reviews for employees of defunct local authorities who are yet to be absorbed by county public service boards."
