Dozens of university and college students from Sameta Ward in Kisii County on Tuesday demonstrated protesting the alleged poor leadership by area member of county assembly.

The protesters accused Mr Evans Siko of Sameta ward of ‘autocratic and divisive’ leadership. They claimed that he was discriminating against a section of his ward due to its perceived political disloyalty.

The angry students descended on the ward’s offices at Sameta and ordered all workers to vacate the premises until their complaints were addressed.

“We are not happy at all with the dictatorship we are seeing from the leadership of Mr Siko. He never takes advice from professionals and he rarely develops regions which are perceived to be strongholds of the opposition. He is a total failure and we are determined to bring him down using all constitutional means,” said Gilbert Mokweri who was speaking on behalf of the protesters.

They accused the MCA of influencing disbursement of county bursaries to benefit his close allies.

“We are from all corners of Sameta and we are advocating for participatory leadership. When it comes to matters education, we do not want politics and the MCA must understand that or we make him understand it,” Mokweri added.

Calm was restored when police from Ogembo liberated the MCAs offices which were under siege for close to four hours.

Siko appealed to the students to follow the right procedures whenever they have grievances.

“I am not perfect but I don’t like the way the students approached the whole thing. They are just showing how they are being used by my opponents to bring me down. Rule of law ought to be followed,” Siko told this writer on phone.
