Residents of Riakemuma village, Giasaiga sub-location in Sameta sub-county have raised a red flag over increasing cases of chicken theft wreaking havoc in the area.

Serah Getaka who is one of the victims is counting losses after losing her two layers on Friday to the thieves who allegedly invaded her homestead immediately she had left for her daily chores in her tea farm.

Speaking to this writer, Getaka lamented that the two layers were part of her self-reliance and economic empowerment initiative she had started before growing it into a business venture.

"I am so much disappointed since all my chicken have been stolen by unknown suspected thieves when I went out of my homestead for my daily tea picking activity.

Getaka we was so much devastated said that she has been reduced to zero in terms of economic empowerment adding that the stolen chicken were meant to assist her grow economically.

She called on local community members to volunteer information on suspected thieves for action to be taken to ensure local farmers gain confidence in poultry farming without threats from such thieves.

Eric Onyoni, another victim who also lost one layer from his chicken cage last weekend recounted how the cartel of unknown thieves is causing local poultry farmers sleepless nights and losses during this hard economic times.

Onyoni challenged Nyumba Kumi Initiative officials to declare war on such thieves to protect local poultry farmers from the agony of losing their poultry investments to thieves who strike their villages when the owners have gone for their various daily activities.
