Sameta sub-county public health officer, Cornelius Barasa underscored the importance of school administrations in the area constituting hygiene committees to enhance good sanitation and hygiene culture in their schools.

Barasa observed that having hygiene committees in schools will not only help curb diseases related to poor hygiene but will also assist in imparting positive hygiene and sanitation culture among learners.

Barasa also challenged school administrations in the area to ensure they have functional pit latrines and compost pits for efficient disposal of solid waste which in most cases poses health hazards and diseases.

"I am directing that all schools within my area of jurisdiction to ensure they have functional pit latrines and compost pits to enhance efficient solid waste disposal in their institutions to avert diseases related to poor solid waste practices," said Barasa.
