Kwale County Speaker Sammy Ruwa has retained his post. Ruwa beat seven other contenders to emerge the winner. He, however, failed to get 2/3 of the votes during the first round, forcing the vote to go into a second round. In the first round, Ruwa garnered 22 votes against Raphael Chimera’s 12 votes. In the second round, Ruwa got 25 votes as Chimera, a coordinator for the National Government Action Fund at the county women representative’s office, managed only 9 votes. Kubo South MCA Andrew Kubo will deputize Ruwa who was sworn in by county assembly clerk Dennis Mutui. Ruwa unsuccessfully contested for the Kwale gubernatorial seat in the August 8 polls.Puma MCA James Ngome and MCA for Pongwe Kikoneni MCA Bakari Mgussu are expected to take over the posts of minority and majority leader respectively.The county has 20 elected and 14 nominated MCAs.
