"The gadgets are being pulled from shelves in 10 countries including South Korea and the United States just two weeks after the product's launch.

Customers who already bought Note 7s will be able to swap them for new smartphones in about two weeks," said Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung's mobile business.

According to Mr Koh who spoke to Associated Press, the company became aware of the faulty gadgets after complaints surfaced online.

Samsung apparently found that a battery cell made by one of its two battery suppliers caused the phone to catch fire but refused to name the supplier and has not said whether the other customers should stop using their gadgets.

"There was a tiny problem in the manufacturing process and it was very difficult to figure out. Nevertheless, the reason we made this decision is because what is most important is customer safety," he said

The note 7 which was launched on August 19th in the US has a fast charging feature which attempts to replenish 50%of the battery in 30 minutes.

2.5 million of them have already been sold globally.
