Masinga sub-county Director of Education Duncan Odhiambo explained that increased sand harvesting and sale had caused poor 2015 National examination results.
Odhiambo was speaking on Monday in Kithyoko Secondary School during the Education day presided by Cabinet Secretary of Education Fred Matiangi.
"Masinga sub-county has great potential of performing but increased sand harvesting has caused students absentism and even worse drop out cases," said Odhiambo.
The Director also stated that the private Schools had performed better than the public school with a private owned school emerging top.
"In the year 2015 we had 960 schools seat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education where the top most school emerged to be St Peters Academy with Mean score of 394 marks an improvement from 338 in 2014," he added.
The Masinga sub-county mean score for standard eight 2015 candidates was 253.34 marks.
