Nandi Senator Stephen Sang has ruled out political sideshows in the Senate Legal Committee insisting that the committee will be guided by the constitution to come with the best report on the controversial amendments of the election laws.
The committee under the leadership of Busia Senator Amos Wako was tasked to table a report in two weeks’ time on the controversial law.
Speaking to KTN news on Thursday, Sang’ said the committee will be keen to collect views from members of the public.
“Senate has handled more controversial issues in a bipartisan approach and I expect the same to prevail. Political sideshows do not have a room in our committee,” he said.
“Kenyans should expect the best out of the committee and that is an assurance. We have invited various stakeholders and members of the public to give their submissions and our conclusion will be based on the constitution,” he added.
The ‘Upper House’ is expected to reconvene on 4th January 2017 to deliberate on the committee’s recommendations with regard to the controversial law.
