of providing girl child with sanitary towels as one way of dealing with absenteeism during their menstrual cycles.
There is improved attendance since the introduction of the pads among girls comparing to the past when most of them would skip school due to stigma,” said Osusu.
The head teacher noted that the ratio between girls to boys stands at 371:367 respectively.
“There has been increase in girls enrollment in our school,” said Osusu.
She however asked the government to increase the supply of the sanitary towels to cater for all girls.
“The sanitary towels have decreased absenteeism cases and now girls have an opportunity to compete with the boys in class. I however ask the government to increase the supply to also give those in class four and five and are receiving their monthly period. At the moment we are only giving the towels to the girls between class six and eight,” said Osusu.
Mary Mogaka, a teacher in charge of the issuing of the towels in the School, said that girls have also improved in their performance.
Mogaka said the initiative has also seen ladies interacting freely with their teachers and fellow pupils.
