Reports that an Administration Police officer and an assistant chief were assaulted by Ugandan fishermen on the disputed Migingo island has irked a section of Nakuru residents.
Speaking Monday, the residents urged the government to urgently address the stand off in the fish-rich island over what they claimed was outright brutality meted out on helpless Kenyans by Ugandan officers and fishermen.
"I wonder why the government is silent yet our colleagues in Migingo island are being harassed in their own country. Have we become that weak to be mistreated in our own territory," wondered Tom Odongo.
The residents further faulted Interior and National Coordination CS Joseph Nkaiserry for being silent on the matter when it was apparent that even administrators are not safe either.
"Why is Nkaiserry silent yet his police officer has been attacked. Why doesn't he treat this matter with the urgency it requires," wondered Emmanuel Kipruto.
Reports stated that about Ugandan fishermen and police Sunday confronted the assistant chief over her legality to administer the island which they insisted was in Uganda.
They later ordered the administrator to accompany them to a nearby Uganda police station when the AP tried to intervene.
However, the fishermen later turned violent and assaulted the Kenyan duo leaving the police officer with injuries as the chief escaped to Ugingo island.
The incident comes barely days after Ugandan security officers arrested IEBC officials who were registering voters on the island.
