NLC chair Mohammed Swazuri said the verification exercise will start in Oljorai Wednesday.

“The commission will be kicking off the verification of squatters in Oljorai tomorrow with the intention of resettling all of them and we will use Sh2.6 million for the whole week-long exercise,” he said.

He spoke on Tuesday morning when he paid a courtesy call to Nakuru Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto’s in his office at the county headquarters.

According to Swazuri, the commission will only issue title deeds to genuine land owners.

“We have done several meetings with all stakeholders in the area and also other parcels such as Ruyobei, and Lari Nyakinyua. We shall be following the original and genuine list of all beneficiaries in the exercise,” he said.

Ruto on his part noted that the commission’s effort will end land tussles that have rocked Oljorai land settlement scheme for donkey years.

Some of the squatters who spoke to this writer welcomed the new development.

Moses Komu, who has lived in Oljorai for the last 30 years without a title deed is optimistic that after a week, he will hold on to what he has longed for many years.
