Renowned academician and political analyst Prof Maurice Amutabi has described the late Homabay Senator’s death as a “tragedy and blow not only to opposition politics but also the country’s politics”.
Addressing students on Wednesday during the swearing in of Kisii University secretariat, Prof Amutabi, who is also the institution’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, hailed the late politician for his “enormous and undisputed” contributions to the democracy in the country.
“I was mesmerised and perturbed to learn of Sen. Kajwang’s sudden demise this morning. He was arguably the best politician and leader whom you would never see in a melancholic moody even when the situation is appalling,” Prof Amutabi said.
He said time has come for other politicians to learn from the strong personality of the late senator and desist from contributing to divisions and disintegration of people along ethnic, political and religious lines.
According to him, his death will give South Nyanza a new dimension of politics since he was Raila Odinga point’s man who helped him handle rebellion from area politicians.
“His death will sabotage the plans of ODM to deal with party dissidents, majority of them from South Nyanza. It will be cumbersome to find his replacement,” Prof Amutabi added.
Senator Otieno Kajwang’ died and the cause is yet to be made public.
