An Agricultural scholar based at Egerton University says continued research in agriculture and social standards in Kenya is needed to end poverty and unemployment.
Prof George Kimurto, the dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering at Egerton University, says that all developed countries in the world had achieved developments through scientific and social research.
Speaking at a lecture, he said that the government and local higher learning institutions should invest a lot in research in order to solve poverty and unemployment in the country.
“We also must implement the findings accordingly. No society in the world has achieved this without scientific and social research,” said Prof Kimurto.
He added that the increased population and changing social economic values were to blame for the high rate of poverty and unemployment among Kenyans.
According to the scholar, the 2030 vision cannot be achieved because so far, the government was not investing enough in research.
Prof Kimurto said more needed to be done to solve the two major problems that affect Kenyans.
