Speaking at the University when they graced farm produce trade fair and fish farming that saw farmers from both Kisii and Nyamira Counties come together, the two Professors said that farming is very important and many other outside countries have developed through faming.

The Professors said that despite having little land in the region, the lands are still fertile adding that all crops do well in the region.

“We have fertile land here in Gusii and we can develop ourselves through making good use of it in farming despite the land being small,” said Getui.

She called on parents to teach their children farming practice and the youth to start seeing farming as a way of helping themselves in the future.

Prof. Akama categorically said that even when one has good education and a good job, he/she can still take up farming as a means of getting an extra coin.

He asked the residents not to hate farming adding that a wise person is the one who uses what God has put close to him.

“It is so shameful when our children get to various Universities and say that they cannot do farming and yet professors in the United States teach students and still do farming while at their homes,” wondered Akama.
