Kisii county based schools have started compiling with the rules that were set by Cabinet secretary Fred Matingi when he was in the education sector.
Most of the buses in the county have already been pointed yellow.
On Friday during the county games competition at Kisii University, all the school buses parked at the parking area were painted yellow.
However, buses belonging to private schools are yet to be repainted.
The ministry ordered that all school buses are paintes yellow with the school's name written in black.
In a directive to regional and county directors of education, the ministry said the paint should be lead-free and pantone-solid coated.
"This bus was painted early this month according to the set rules. The bus now looks new and neat," said John Omondi, a bus driver.
The painting is estimated to cost each institutions at least Sh150,000 for every bus, according to vehicle dealers.
This rule has been adopted from United States and Canada where all school buses have been painted yellow.
The deadline for the compliancy is 31st May.
