A secondary school in Elgeyo Marakwet was closed for a week after students went on a rampage Wednesday night.
Students of St Peters Marakwet Boys' Secondary School were sent home after burning a dormitory and destorying their classes, the staff room and a teacher's car.
The star reported that the students also broke into the principal's and accounts' offices, and stole Sh35,000, and took teacher's personal items which include a laptop and phone.
Marakwet West education director Evans Onyancha said that students behind the unrest sneaked out that night to take alcohol, their mission upon returning was to cause chaos.
Education director said more than 1,200 students were sent home.
Mr Onyancha reported that a few student got minor injuries during the rampage.
Onyancha said that the school governing body will ascertain the damages and inform parents before students are allowed back.
