A school in Nakuru has been closed for allegedly pumping out raw waste onto neighboring farms.
In a letter obtained by a local publication, Nakuru County Public Health Officer Samuel King'ori ordered Wanyororo Girls’ Academy’s closure after finding out that the school was depositing raw waste onto other farms..
"We got information from residents and our preliminary investigations point to the school draining the waste onto nearby farms," said King'ori.
The school administrator could not be reached for a comment as King'ori insisted the case will be pursued.
"They are supposed to open today (Monday) but the school will remain closed until they comply with the notice given to them stating that they must disinfect the contaminated fields," he said.
King'ori said students would not be allowed into the school until all the waste was removed and maintenance done as recommended.
"All the filled-up latrines should also be demolished as recommended in the notice and all other works for maintenance of cleanliness done," he said.
