As the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the government continue engaging in war of words, most students have been left suffering.
But not in Gatundu North constituency where schools are being run by their specific school committees.
Although only upper primary students are attending schools, learning is going on.
According to John Maina, a class eight pupil in Mataara Primary School, all they want is for the government to agree with teachers since they are the ones losing.
"We really hope our teachers will agree with the government soon because we have a lot to cover. In some subjects we are yet to cover the class seven syllabus,” said Maina.
In the neighbouring Maria-ini Primary, the school committee chairman, Daniel Kiruka said that he and some committee members are forced to come to school to ensure that both pupils who come to study and school school property are safe.
"We are hoping that the government and teachers will strike a deal so that our children will not lose much,” said Kiruka.
Many schools we visited in Gatundu North we found pupils studying through group discussions and debates.
