Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi has warned that the number of pupils absent from classes will increase, if nothing is done to introduce feeding system in primary schools in the county.
Speaking during Kithimani zonal Education day, Mwangangi called upon the County government to act fast on allocation of funds to the respective schools to ensure normal learning process continues without disruptions.
“I am asking emergency funds to be directed to feeding our pupils in the Primary Schools. This step should have been taken a long time ago instead of the numerous police vehicles that were purchased,” said Mwangangi.
“However the emergency funds is with the County government and it is the mandate of our governor and the top officials to distribute it to serve the people in need,” added Mwangangi.
In attendance with the MP were several Yatta education officials, including the area MCA Sammy Nduva, the Deputy County Commissioner Allan Machari, Sub-County Director of education and all the Primary School teachers under Kithimani zone.
Machari made it clear that together with the Kithimani chief of police, they had managed to take 37 children from the streets of Kithimani town and taken them to school.
“The operation aimed at clearing our streets and helping the needy access education has seen 37 children go back to school. This will also ensure that we bring up children who are responsible and avoid them growing up to be thugs who will terrorize the residents,” said Machari.
