Speaking to the press on Monday after visiting the school, the legislator said preliminary investigations showed the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

"I wish to urge fellow Kenyans commenting and writing on both social media and mainstream media to refrain from speculative talk regarding the incident which was not arson as confirmed by preliminary investigations which indicate that this was most likely an electrical fault," he said.

Shariff Nassir further pledged to donate school uniforms, books and other necessities to the affected students.
