The current fires and rampages witnessed in schools are due to the broken chain of exam theft, Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo has said.
Midiwo said that Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i had broken the chains in which brokers leaked exams to schools before time.
He further argued the exam brokers co-ordinate with school teachers for students to pay for exam papers as early as two years.
“Students resort to burn schools because CS Matiang’i is sealing loopholes for exam leakages. The brokers know the exams and sell them to schools before they are printed,” Midiwo said.
The Gem legislator argued that students collect money and pay the exam brokers hence they do not concentrate in reading because they are sure of passing the exams.
Speaking on Thursday on Ramogi FM during a talk show, Midiwo supported Matiang’i on his call for a change of curriculum and country education structure.
The legislator reiterated that the current system of education was perpetrating production of less practical skills in the society.
“This system has been blamed for producing half-baked students. Nowonder the high rate of dropout for Engineering and Medicine courses in our colleges and universities,” he added.
Midiwo also called for a re-introduction of corporal punishment in schools to ensure discipline was restored in students to curb rampages.
