The management of a primary school from Kitutu Masaba Constituency has made an urgent appeal to leaders and well wishers to facilitate the repair of leaking roofs.

According to the head teacher, Josphat Ratemo who spoke to this writer on phone, the management has resulted to releasing pupils early from the institution due to ongoing rains to seek shelter at their homes.

He said Riooga Primary School had not received help from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which had pledged to provide Sh500,000.

“We are in a very awkward situation since we have to send children home every lunch time so that they take shelter in their respective homes. We need urgent help from the area leadership and as management, we are yet to know why it has taken long by CDF committee to issue a cheque that MP had promised,” he said.

According to him, children risked failing to complete their syllabuses since they had spent another one month home due to teachers strike on September.

“It is even less than a month since we opened for the third term. They (pupils) may not complete their syllabus because they do not get required teaching due to intensive rains. We have communicated to the Ministry of Education and nothing yet has been done,” he added.

Ratemo further appealed to the county government for help from part of the funds set aside to mitigate the effects of El Nino rains.

“I thought the county government had set aside emergency cash for El Nino rains. Our case should be counted as part of the emergency so that we get ample time to prepare our children especially the class 8 candidates,” Ratemo said.
