John Motanya was arrested on Monday following an attempted robbery at Sakawa primary school in Kisii after making attempts to run out of town without reporting the Sunday night incident that left many residents in shock.

According to the school head, Tobias Nyang’au, the accused failed to report the incident to him after a group of boda boda operators had come into the rescue of school property following a tip from a passerby.

“We have a strong feeling that he knows what was going on. He has not reported the incident yet he should have been the one guarding the school. I expected him to inform me through any means,” said Nyang’au.

“It was our boda boda men who dealt with the thugs who were almost breaking into the staffroom. When I called him, he failed to pick my calls and I had to inform officers who arrested him when he was actually planning to go out of town,” he said.

Kisii OCS John Wamotho confirmed the incident and said the suspect will be arraigned in court to face charges of spearheading an attempted robbery.

“We arrested him in his Nyambera estate and we are finalising on the report so that he is arraigned in court to face charges of attempted robbery,” Wamotho said.
