A Parents-Teachers Association at Aoon Primary School, Kuresoi South, has appealed to the government through the Education ministry to hire more teachers for the institution.

The school faces a serious teacher shortage an issue which has undermined its performance in national examinations.

“We have only five teachers in the school. We have been coordinating with the responsible authorities to send more teachers and so far, my efforts have not succeeded,” said Maiywa Charles, the school head teacher.

The head teacher said the school's performance is not pleasing due to the acute shortage of teachers. In last year's KCPE, the school mean grade was 233.4

“The performance is not pleasing and I can link it t the shortage of teachers. However, the few teachers we have are working hard to ensure that the learners excel in their examinations,” he added.

The school’s chairman, John Kemei urged the Ministry of Education to send more teachers to the school so that the performance of their children improves.

“We need our children to excel and this can happen when we have plenty of teachers in our school. We appeal for the Ministry to consider our grievances,” said Kemei.
