A school headteacher from Nyamira County has been summoned to explain alleged misappropriation of more than Sh30,000 that is said to be generated from various assets by the institution.

This comes after angry parents stormed Ritibo primary school in Nyamira County and demanded that the headteacher, James Tai, explains with regard to the money which is said to have been collected from the tea farming, nappier grass farming and renting the school field for grazing.

But on Wednesday, Gesima education officer Mr. Robert Obiria gave a directive that the head teacher and the school committee appear in his office to answer to the allegations and threatened to pursue the matter on higher authorities.

“The education office has never tolerated graft and whenever it is mentioned, the accused must be held liable. The headteacher and his team have only one week to do so. The sum is quite high and the accusers have already tabled their evidence,” he said.

Mr Obiria further promised to expedite the process besides vowing to deal with another case in which the teachers from the institution are said to be skipping most classes on Friday.

“I have consolidated the graft issue with missing of classes by most teachers from the institution on Fridays. The investigations will be concluded and a decisive action taken. We want to see transparency in our institutions."

However, speaking to Hivisasa.com on phone, Mr Tai dismissed the graft claims as ‘malicious and mere exaggeration’ meant to taint his name and promised to cooperate with the education office.
