A school head teacher has committed suicide in what is believed to have been caused by a transfer.
The deceased, formerly a headteacher of Nyabondo Boys Boarding Primary School had received a transfer letter from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and had handed over duty on Wednesday.
His body was discovered inside his house on Thursday morning within the school compound dangling from the roof top.
The deceased was living alone since his wife is also a teacher in at a neighboring county while his children are in the school.
His colleagues said the deceased was unsettled since he received the transfer letter to another school in Seme Sub County.
“Mwalimu has been having worries, we could see him. He has never been the same since he received the transfer letter,” said a teacher who sought to remain anonymous.
Police picked a suicide note from his house whose content is still unknown.
The school has had two fire incidences burning a dormitory and a classroom destroying properties of unknown value.
The body was transferred to Kisumu Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
Track One Learners Alliance Director Innocent Masara has condoled with the family and castigated TSC for unnecessary transfers.
Masara said TSC ought to have prepared the teacher for the transfer and wondered why the transfer was to be made in third term.
“This is unacceptable, why is TSC in a hurry to transfer in a third term,” he said.
He said the teacher has stayed in the school for over 10 years and was to be prepared psychologically before handed over the transfer letter.
