Secondary school managers in Borabu now want parents to cooperate to reduce cases of students sneaking out of school at night.
Reports from Matutu SDA principal’s office indicate that seven girls disappeared from the institution last week only to be found in neighbouring Keroka Township a week later.
Addressing parents and students on Wednesday, school head Barnabas Onchwari said efforts by the institution to thwart the menace had not yielded much even after sacking the school night guard.
“Last week alone at seven girls sneaked out of school to Keroka and some are reported to have gone home. This is quite dangerous and we can only manage to combat it if we get enough backing from parents,” he said.
According to him, a section of parents had contested a regulation that would see culprits expelled from the institution if enough evidence was gathered against them for promoting the unscrupulous behavior.
“We know this is not a government school and parents have a direct say on matters governance. But we need to be more vigilant and work together to promote good results,” he added.
According to Mr Onchwari, n the last term alone, the institution recorded 25 cases of students sneaking from the institution on weekends to clubs.
“The mystery is a bit complicated. We have investigated and the issue has nothing to do with the guards. Maybe they are using undisclosed entrances to move out of school. Last term, we had 25 such cases and that is why I need parents to help us talk to the children,” he said.
They resolved to organise guidance and counseling sessions on weekends where parents are expected to be part of the team advising students.
