Sub-county Education Director Jeremiah Were sounded the warning as he addressed a gathering of the Chairs of School Management Committees at the Diakonia Resort in the outskirts of Oyugis town on Monday.

Were warned that any head teacher who would be found to have gone against the Ministry of Education directive will be appropriately reprimanded as it was a directive issued by none other than the Education Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi himself.

“It has come to our attention that some school heads may have admitted students from schools that have been rocked by arson attacks. The policy is that such should not be allowed at any cost and we are advising such heads to rescind any such admissions with immediate effect,” he said.

The Sub-county director also called on the BOM chairpersons to consider budgetary allocations aimed at the installation of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras. He said that if installed in schools, this would enhance surveillance both day and night and ultimately decrease school unrest.

Were, also said that the County education office was considering a ban on the opening or registration of any new schools. He said that there was a need to improve the existing schools in terms of adequate teaching staff and other facilities instead of rushing to open up new ones.

The meeting was also attended by Homa Bay County Education Board chair, Roselyne Onyuka and Kabondo MP Silvance Osele.
