The management of a school in Nyamira has summoned a former Councillor and the immediate former head teacher for alleged misappropriation of funds.
The two are accused of irregularly withdrawing a sum of Sh131,000 in the year 2013 towards the general elections, a transaction the board says that has left the institution in a financial crisis.
The board of management of Nyaronge Primary School lead by chairman Cyrus Amisi on Thursday accused Julius Nyanchieo and former head teacher, Walter Ombati of failing to account for the money and demanded that they appear before the committee in a weeks time or else risk being taken to court.
Amisi said the former head teacher refused to disclose details of bank accounts till he retired on July 2015, when the committee says it realised the anomalies.
“The committee has unanimously decided that the two should appear before us and explain why they withdrew the money even without involving certain leaders in the management by then. We have enough evidence to link them to the theft and we will consider going to court to seek answers if they fail to account for the money,” he said.
The school's board chairman further revealed that the money was meant to purchase exercise books for students and the management by then opted to compel parents to purchase the books for their kids.
“We have information that the money was meant for buying writing books but nothing was bought. This is fraud and someone has to answer,” he said.
However, Nyachieo, the former Councillor for Gesima Ward and chairman of the board then, denied the allegations and termed them as political witch-hunt.
“These are just politics. There are processes that people must be subjected to before withdrawing such an amount of money and I really don’t know why they are raising non-issues against me. I am ready to do what they want,” he said.
