As the third day for thousands of students joining Form one sets in today (Thursday), schools continue to feel the pinch of increased numbers of students.

Principals of Secondary Schools in Kisii County said they were facing an accommodation challenge for the new students.

Nyabururu Girls High School head Joyce Orioki said they were allocated a 'huge' number of 438 students by the Ministry of Education.

She claimed the number was the highest given to a secondary school in the county.

"We are facing accommodation crisis due to a high number of students. There have inadequate beds and space to accommodate all the students without compromising on the safety of our learners," Orioki told the Nation on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Nyakemincha Secondary School saw parents flocking in to request admission for their children.

"We are forced to turn away parents because we have already admitted above our capacity. The four streams we have for Form One will be congested," said Joseph Arama, the school principal.

The increased number of students has been attributed to new free secondary education being rolled out by the government.

The State has dispatched Sh29.5 billion to fund free tuition in all public schools.
