Bishop Birech Girls in Kipkambus has come up with an ambitious way to raise funds for the school while at the same time ensuring that students do not go hungry.
Rosemary Bor, the school principal says that she started to bake bread in the school to ensure that all students have a share of the bread with or without money.
"The main reason behind this project is because we noted that not all students are given pocket money. So some of them could not afford to buy bread and this led to some theft cases arising. That is why I decided that all students eat bread with or without money," Bor says.
Bor adds that the project has enabled her to fund other school projects and thus sparing parents from having to fund them as many of them are poor.
The students have said that they are happy with the whole thing as they do not waste time sneaking out to look for breakfast.
"Before we got a bakery, we used to sneak out against the school rules but now we do not," one student said.
