A section of parents in Nakuru town have complained that some schools are conducting tuition despite the government ban.
The parents allege that some schools are forcing pupils to resume classes.
Maureen Mukami, a parent, claims that her daughter has been forced to go back to school for tuition.
She further alleged that the public school located in Nakuru town has been demanding Sh1,000 as tuition fee.
“I received a call from the school deputy head-teacher demanding Sh1,000 for tuition. This is despite the government saying that no tuition should happen over the holidays,” she said.
However, a spot check by our reporter revealed that most schools are not conducting tuition though a section of parents claim that tuition is being done behind doors.
The government banned holiday tuition in order to allow students have enough time to rest before resuming learning.
Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi has warned school heads and teachers against conducting holiday tuition as it is illegal.
