A number of schools are said to be hurriedly closing ahead of the October 26 presidential election.

On Thursday, students were seen in Nairobi going home after schools closed to reopen on January 2. 

Among notable schools that closed on Thursday were Mangu High School in Kiambu County.

Maseno School in Kisumu closed on Friday among other schools.

According to the Ministry of Education timetable, October 25 is the day all primary schools will close for the Christmas holidays.

Those in Form One, Two and Three will also close on October 24.

Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association chairman Kahi Indimuli revealed that teachers been mandated to ensure students are safe in school until they are handed back to their parents.
