Schools across the country have defied Education CS Fred Matiang'i's directive on school fees regulation.
Despite the CS giving guidelines for the amount of fees to be charged, majority of the institutions have gone against the CS and in turn imposed their own amounts.
A close review of these schools' 2018 fee structures reveals that they still charge medical and insurance fees as well as money for teaching, learning materials and exams.
Recently the government increased the annual subsidy for each child from Sh12,870 to Sh22,244 to see that free day secondary school education becomes a success as the money absorbed Sh9,374 which parents were required to pay.
But Alliance Boys High School, Maranda High and Njabini Boys are reportedly still charging Sh1,060 for medical (insurance and property) and another Sh508 for medical.
Form One admission letters for Musingu, Naivasha Girls, St Bakhita Gataragwa, Tumutumu Girls, Naro Moru Girls, Othaya Boys and Njabini Boys require parents to buy mathematical sets, Bibles, spring files, dictionaries, atlases, pens, and Kamusi, among other items.
