It is business as usual in private schools in Kibra even as learning remains paralysed in public schools due to the ongoing teachers strike.
The strike is due to failure by the government to pay their increased salaries as directed by the courts.
It is the second day of third term and pupils at Jeremic Adventist Academy in Kibra have already caught up with the rhythm of learning while their counterparts in public schools continue waiting out the teachers' strike at home.
Lucas Momanyi, the deputy headteacher at the school said they sometimes get new pupils from public schools and teachers who join them rather than staying at home.
Public schools remained closed with pupils forced to go back home pending further communication.
Ayany Primary school pupils who had reported to school in the morning were forced to head back home following instructions by their gate-keeper that learning could not continue as teachers had not reported to work.
"We have been told by the watchman to go back home because teachers are on strike," said one of pupils as she headed back home in the morning.
The tussle between the teachers and their employer, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to cause a big blow to candidates preparing for the national examinations later this term.
Other schools in Kibra affected by the ongoing strike are Olympic Primary School, Old Kibera Primary School, Shadrack Kimalel, and Toi primary.
