A United Nations linked NGO will from January next year distribute to female primary schools pupils in Nakuru town free tissues, sanitary towels and soaps to boost their hygiene and sanitation status.
The President of SOROPTIMIST International Club Nakuru County Lenah Nakhone announced this when she led other members of the club in donating food and clothing to women and girls at an Internally Displaced Persons camp at Pipeline area in Nakuru town on Friday.
Nakhone noted that the international club was dedicated at elevating the lives of women and girls across the world by providing basic incentives that goes towards improving their health, education and plight in life.
She said the programme that will be sponsored by various corporate bodies and NGO’s locally and internationally will run for five years starting from January next year and will expand to other schools in Nakuru County.
“This is a long term programme that is dedicated at ensuring the wellbeing of our girls because we realize that girls are vulnerable to health hazards linked to sanitation,” said Nakhone.
“This plan will seek at imparting health discipline line in our girls to enable them perform well in school and empower their lives,” added Nakhone.
SOROPTIMIST International Club is an NGO which through charity and philanthropy aims at elevating the lives of marginalized women and girl child across the world.
Currently, SOROPMIST is playing an active role in assisting women and girls in IDP camps in the county.
