Public schools in Mavoko Sub-County have since Monday remained closed following the ongoing national teachers strike.
A spot check conducted by Hivisasa.com on Thursday revealed that all public primary and secondary schools in the entire sub-county have not re-opened for third term.
Athi River, Mavoko, Kinanie, Katani and Mlolongo primary and secondary schools remain closed.
Mavoko deputy quality assurance officer, James Kitonyi, said that most private schools in the region had re-opened and learning was going on.
In Athi River, Mlolongo and Chyumvi towns within the sub-county, several children were either playing football in public playing grounds, watching movies in video dens or playing computer games in cyber cafes as others remained indoors.
Caroline Kitui, a parent in Mavoko, said she had hired a private teacher to coach her form four daughter in a bid to equip her for the forthcoming KCSE examinations.
