Schools operating in Machakos County without registration from the District Educational board have until mid-March 2015 to comply, or risk being closed down.
Speaking on Tuesday afternoon in Matuu HGM Primary School during zonal education day, the Deputy County Commissioner Allan Machari stated that it was illegal for the schools to operate without legal authority by the DEB.
“I regret to learn that there are some schools operating in Yatta Constituency without authority from the District Education Board. They are doing it against the law and need to regularize it like yesterday,” said Machari.
He cautioned that if the school managements failed to comply with the given deadline, the Education department would have no option but to close the schools indefinitely.
“The schools in question should collect a form from the sub-county director of educations’ office and ensure you register with him in the next one month so that the process gets completed in duration of not more than two months,” added Machari.
The DCC further explained that it was for the exclusive benefit of the schools, as the DEB is mandated with hiring and remunerating of support and subordinate staff in public schools.
In attendance during the education day meeting was the Yatta Member of Parliament Francis Mwangangi, Matuu Member of County Assembly David Kiviu and sub-County administrator.
