Researchers have revealed that alcohol could be more harmful particularly to the brain as compared to bhang, scientifically known as cannabis sativa.
Research has been conducted across different institutions in order to find out the differences in brain damage caused by taking alcohol and smoking marijuana.
Let us take a look at the findings carried out by scientists at the University of Colorado Boulder to find out the effect of alcohol and marijuana on the brain.
According to the findings of Colorado University, alcohol causes long-term changes to the structure of white matter and grey matter in the brain.
On the contrary, according to the studies, marijuana doesn't cause changes of such kind even after years of exposure.
"While marijuana may also have some negative consequences, it definitely is nowhere near the negative consequences of alcohol," Professor Kent Hutchison, the author of the study, said.
Scientifically, grey matter enables the brain to function while the white matter carries nerve impulses between neurons.
However, other studies linked marijuana to a greater risk of psychosis in teenagers and described it as harmful to cardiovascular health according to the school of Public Health at George State Universty in Atlanta.
According to research, marijuana also messes with people's perception of time.
This is strongly felt in sexual life where abusers of marijuana claim the drug helps them stay longer during intercourse.
However, some scientists argue that this is not true because marijuana makes the users feel high hence have a wrong perception of time.
