One passenger died while several others sustained injuries after a vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a road accident at Nyilima market center along the Ndori-Luanda-Kotieno Road in Siaya County Sunday morning.
According to Rarieda OCPD Johana Chebii, the small bus belonging to UK Sacco was en-route to Luanda-Kotieno with some 20 passengers when it veered off the road, plunging into a ditch.
One person died instantly.
Chebii said the bus was carrying family members heading to Uyoma after the burial of a kin in Seme Constituency, Kisumu County.
He added that the bus driver is suspected to have been drunk thus losing control of the vehicle.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Madiany sub-county hospital mortuary as the injured receive medical attention at Lwak Mission Hospital.
